Hand Over Files
Hello All
Newbie on this site.We are hoping to be in Perth in September and have been in contact with our doctors about our hand over files. They have told us it will cost £110 is this the norm? The schools are doing it free of charge both are public services so why the cost?
many thanks

No this is not. I specialise in Data Protection and this is out of order. Doctors appear to be the worst for charging. Can I recomend something, for the price of a call you could get advise from The Information Commissioner. The IC regulates the Data Protection Act; this is the legislation that covers the regulations regarding personal data ie info your dr holds on you and your family. Their office has a dedicated helpline for queries/complaints. You can either look up the number on the internet, or I could PM you tomorrow with the number or if you like call some people I know there and pose the question to them and send you their response tomorrow night. Let me know.

Our docs charge a £10 fee then a certain amount per page copied. I can't remember exactly now how much but it's certainly not £110. If it was I wouldn't bother !

Re: Hand Over Files
Our doctors said that 1 volume would cost us £27.50 but they cannot tell us how far 1 volume will go. And for me having had kids and all that I have quite a few volumes apparently so I would imagine mine will be in the hundreds.

I don't understand why they charge at all. If you move house and register with a new doctor, the new doctor requests your medical records, the old surgery don't charge the new one for it. Surely if you are leaving the country you should be able to take your notes with you free of charge!

Hmm, I could bring them home and photocopy them and have them back within a couple of hours, but I bet they don't allow that!

Re: Hand Over Files
When we went for our medical, the panel doctors receptionist was very helpful and suggested that we get 'photocopies' of my husbands medical reports relating to his diabetes. She stressed photocopies and said they would only charge about 33p a copy(remember they are private)..well when I collected the report, we were charged for 6 copies at 36p per copy which was £2.16 and £10.00 admin charge for just doing the copies!
I was shocked but couldn't argue, had to pay as we thought we needed them.
