Hand Luggage allowance??
We fly on Wednesday, have to 40k allowance with Singapore, but we have just had a huge debate in the Quinn household.......
Would a laptop go as a piece of hand luggage or would we able to sneak it through in addition to a bag??
All replies greatly appreciated!!

Re: Hand Luggage allowance??
under the current restrictions you are only allowed one piece of hand luggage per person in the cabin. So if you take your laptop that's your one piece of hand luggage

Re: Hand Luggage allowance??
Out of Perth we were allowed a laptop as an 'extra' piece of cabin baggage and no one said a thing. Returning from Birmingham, they wanted to throw the laptop in hold! I managed to squeeze it into a carry on bag (just) and they were happy. Funny that.... the carry on bag was very overweight with the laptop in, but they were happy it was just one piece.
I should just add that it is security that will send you back to check-in if they are not happy with the baggage, during the x-ray/customs proceedures.

Most airlines do not count the laptop as a carry on bag.I travel alot with with and i have never had a problem with bringing a laptop and one carry on.You will even see this advertised.Carrying on a suit is another example, once its within a certain size limit you can bring a suit bag along with the one carry on bag allowed.

UK rules currently do NOT allow a laptop to go separate - you can only take one bag as hand luggage and everything has to go in there, teddies and laptops included. You are OK if flying into the UK, but if flying from thee UK, or tarnsferring within the UK to another flight, then the limit applies.

For latest info check the bit that says "Latest Security Info Here".
I would say that irrespective of what it says on the SIA website - it's whatever security restrictions that apply at the UK airport that will take precedence.
Edit : Whoops - forgot to paste link!

Re: Hand Luggage allowance??
The airline info given on their sites and with their tickets is currently over-ridden by the local security at UK airports. Regardless of the normal rules, UK airports are enforcing the small handbaggage rules and they WILL make you put everything else in the hold. Handbags and laptops MUST all fit into the one bag you are allowed.
