Hi to all you guys on our west island (ducks for cover)
I was just wondering if there are hamsters in Australia? Here in NZ, you can have rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice, chinchillas, cats, dogs, budgies etc. as pets but NO hamsters
So I was pondering on this yesterday & wondered if Oz is the same.
Please can you satisfy my curiosity

I have heard ozzies say thay have chinchillas, but they actually mean a type of cat. They look at me like I have two heads when I tell them about the chinchilla I used to have in the UK. Not to mention that they overheat just in the UK, I know people who's chins have died from heat, so I can't imagin they would do well in summer anyway.

Many thanks for satisfying my curiosity. Such a shame, because they are such cute rodents

Yep. Australian chinchilla = Persian cat, i.e. absolutely no relation to the "real" chinchilla
