Default Had quoters in (Sheffield)

For those of you in or around Sheffield, I have just had a bloke round from Freightworld in Hillsborough (Sheffield) and what a nice guy he was.
It turns out we were right in thinking we'll need a 20' container mainly because of the size of our settee (hugh) and main TV (massive). We are taking alot of stuff but alot of our furniture we're selling.
Anyway back to Freightworld, very nice and apologetic (40 mins late, with good reason) Very informative on things to take or leave behind, we've now decided we are taking the petrol lawnmower (which we were going to leave behind) We've requested that we pack and load ourselves and even though he didn't have to tell us, he's gone over the 'proper' way to load the container so as to minimalise damage.
Our quote stands us at £2145, this includes them dropping the container on the playground by our back gate, 3 hours free to load which he thinks is plenty for us, shipping, clearance through customs and delivery to an address within 30mins of Brisbane.
Additional charges we have to pay are the customs charges if there is any.
We have to pack and load in UK and unload in OZ. They will provide however many boxes we require, we have to buy settee covers at £7.50 from them aswell as any wardrobe boxes if we require them (like a cardboard wardrobe, even with a hanging rail. They will also sell us any bubble wrap or whatever else we need but we've got all that sort of stuff already.
He answered every question we had and seemed to really know his stuff. We have had other quotes through email and telephone and these are the 2nd cheapest. We will be having a couple more out to see us at home but this one is actually looking good. Will keep you all posted on what we decide in the end.

Thanks for the advice. We've decided to get everything into our dining room in the right loading order the day before the container comes. We moved house last year and did it the same way, had hubby and 4 mates helping us and we did it in under 3 hours with fag and coffee breaks, so we've kind of had a practise run.

I always wondered about packing up for the move so this was quite interesting. Wouldnt have thought about taking the lawnmower but if they let you then why not!
Good luck with it all Marie. We have friends in Runaway Bay they love it.

Hiya Marie.

My wife's sister and her hubby from Dronfield went to Perth a couple of months ago and after a few quotes they got Pickfords in. They didn't have a container as there was no way enough stuff as they got rid of loads.
The guys packed all their stuff which they said was more than a little wierd to watch someone sorting your bits and bobs out. It cost them about £1400. (Pricey?)
When they got to the other end their stuff got there early so they needed to get some perminent lodging as it would really cost them for storage.

We have just moved into their house in Dronfield whilst waiting for our visa applications to go through (fingers crossed).
I think the key is organisation when moving. One thing I found was to write on the top AND side of the boxes as you are b*uggered once they are stacked.

I read a thread a while ago and it mentioned taking the mower. It said that they stripped and scrubbed it to avoid hassle at customs.

Runaway Bay looks a really nice place, but expensive.
You planning on turning over a Post Office before you go? LOL.

Good luck with it all.

Scotty.

Yeah, would love to meet up with others when we get there.
Our reason for Runaway Bay is purely that's where Steves mum is and that's where we're staying to start with.
Also have his bro down the road in Labrador.
We were originally going to Mooloolah on Sunshine Coast to his sisters place but after lots of thinking, research and web house hunting we've decided on Gold Coast.
We've been looking at Ashmore aswell as Pacific Pines and Helensvale but I suppose when we get there is when the real area hunting starts, needs to have a good pre-school for starters for Libby.
