GYMPIE QLD
Hi, Are there any Expats living or have lived in Gympie, QLD? There's a possibility of a job there and I'm wondering whether it's worth moving. Very settled in Brisbane but just wondering...

just do your home work, many parts of Gympie are prone to flooding, and the deadliest stetch of road in australia is the highway between Gympie and Caboolture

Hi, Commuting is an option from Noosa. My friend does that. It takes an hour, sometimes more.
Positive aspects of Gympie:
Cheaper properties.
Negative aspects:
Hotter in the summer.
Highway through town is often very congested.
Higher unemployment and crime rate.
Feels rundown.
Personally I love Noosa. Beautiful all year round. Has a nice relaxed feeling. Except during peak holiday seasons.
Good luck.

Property prices are way cheaper than Noosa though they are now comparable with many of the Brisbane suburbs, albeit the poorer less desirable ones.
The highway through Gympie is now dual lane right through so the traffic congestion has eased somewhat. There are however seven sets of lights on the way through so it can take 15 mins on a bad day just sitting at lights with no traffic coming the other way. [on demand would be far to hard]
It is hotter than the coast, though the humidity is often lower so it feels as cool or cooler. We don't have aircon & have lived here 8 years.
The unemployment rate is about 10% so 4% above the national average.
There's little opportunity to find work unless you provide a trade or service. Even that's becoming harder, especially for construction trades, there's little heavy industry & only a couple of factories, Nestle make coffee here & there's a Macadamia processing factory only seasonal lol. Aside from a few Saw Mills theres not much else.
We're seriously considering a move elsewhere since the construction meltdown.

Re: GYMPIE QLD
plenty of work inland from gympie, the coal, gas and oilfields are screaming to skilled and unskilled labour, the money is good too!!live in 10days, 4days at home, commute from dalby or chinchilla for time off is a doddle, my son commutes from Roma to toowoomba 3 or 4 times aweek on a bad week, it all depends on what you are prepared to put up with
