Default GSM 900/1800 mobile phone network

Anyone used their UK mobile phone in Aus?
Got an old Ericsson T10 which partner loves and wont be without.

we have used it before in Aus but with the T-Mobile Sim . Will it work with most service providers in Aus if we join another provider with a new sim card?

cheers

Ant

UK GSM phones will work fine here assuming that they're not locked to the network. one2one didn't lock their phones, but T-Mobile may, so just try sticking a friend's Orange, Vodafone, etc. SIM into the Ericsson just to check before you come.

Hope this helps;

it should work it's dual band so you should be able to use any Aus network (never thought I'd see anyone ask about one of those in this day and age ) as long as it's unlocked

Except Telstra's CDMA and Next G, Three and the 3G varients of the others.
Also I thought One2NoOne was one of the networks who did lock phones. Cellnet and Voda didn't used to in the early days..

didn't even mention 3g as it won't work on 3g in uk let alone aus and from what I've read telstra operate on both gsm 900 and 1800 for thier 2g service which the ericsson would work on

Telstra do operate on GSM on 900 and 1800, but they also operate other services such as NextG and previuosly CDMA which are not GSM on either of those frequencies.

Its just mis leading to say it will work on any network here as it won't. It will work on the GSM services provided by Telstra, Optus, Voda and those that piggy back on these networks only.

On the back of all above - just be wary of the limited GSM Coverage in Aus outside the metros. If you are living in the country you may only have the option of NextG from Telstra which requires a new UMTS850 phone in all cases.
