Hi all,
I would like to introduce the family - Terry 44 (only just), Carol 40, Freddie 5 and Georgia 4.
We received confirmation from the TRA that my hubby is a motor mechanic on Sunday night - magic eh? (something he has been doing in the UK for years).
Visa application sent yesterday and should be received next week. OH 45th birthday Monday 27th - plenty of time I hear you say.
Anyway, we can all breath again that the app is in before the big 45.
We are destined for Perth, if DIMA will let us in.
Currently thinking of using his skills if possible within the mining industry as he has been working for the last few year on HGV vehicles. If anyone has any helpful hints re: ways in, we would really be grateful.
Anyway, just wanted to say a big hello and look forward to getting to know you all.

Hiya,
Hope all goes well for you with the application process. I am sure more people will come on board to wish you well and let you know about your hubbys skills in regards to mining.
Cheers

Hi Cartel,
have you thought about the trucking industry in Australia, they cart their goods about via road trains (Up and down the Great Northern Highway between Darwin and Perth, and accross the Nullabor), and they need mechanics, no? or am I on the wrong lines here, anyhoo, good luck with the application

crikey you're cutting it really fine. Do you have an agent? If you have they should have told you that your application has to be acknowledged before your 45th birthday. This means the application has to arrive in Oz and then be opened, read and acknowledged. I wish you all the luck in the world but if I was you I would ring them to explain your tight timeline and there's a chance they might do something. Out of interest does anyone know of anyone getting acknowledged within 2 weeks of posting the application?

I never had any acknowledgement at all until DIMIA requested my meds for 5 months after.

We checked with our agent. The clock definately stops when the app enters the building. Although we may not get the acknowledgement until early 2007 it will show the date of receipt (i.e. next week) - huge sigh of relief!

I'm not sure where your information comes from, but as others have said, a valid skilled application simply needs to be received at the Skilled Processing Centre before the main applicant's 45th birthday. When it is acknowledged is not relevant.
Best regards.

Hi,
Don't worry - you'll soon know they got it as DIMIA take your money from the credit card pretty darn quickly. I don't think the postman had driven off before our card was debited.
