Got fine for going through an amber light
Hello All
I got fined for going through an amber light in Melbourne Vic I have read threads talking about writing a letter with a possibility of being let off. The question is how likely is this to happen (being let off that is) thanks for that guys besides that Melbourne has been good for us, we been here since Aug 1 Des |

The cops here don't seem to understand common sense or 'letting you off' as it doesn't meet their targets. |
Re: Got fine for going through an amber light
If you are absoulutely sure it was amber, then appeal in some form. It is a point of principle, what next when "they" get away with it? A fine for going through a green light?

Re: Got fine for going through an amber light
You can go through Amber in Queensland. I know they have different rules for stuff but something like that's a bit tough if you were an interstate driver :(

Angela "You must not drive past the STOP line at the yellow traffic light or, if there is no STOP line, the traffic light. You must not drive in the direction of the yellow traffic arrow past the STOP line at the traffic light or, if there is no STOP line, the traffic light. However, you may drive past the yellow traffic light or arrow if you are so close to the light or arrow when it changes from green to yellow, it is unsafe to stop." |

Re: Got fine for going through an amber light
Fark....
I drive thru amber lights all the time, I think of it as a pre-pre cursor to green ! I understood that, if it is unsafe to stop .. then plough on thru. So I do ! Lets hope someone coming in adjacent direction, doesnt apply same rule to red ! Plus lights are on amber for so long, its like an invitation to drive MAXIMUM PENALTY !! 20 POINTS !!!!! your kidding |
Re: Got fine for going through an amber light
I can't believe how many times i've just scraped thru on amber, then looked in the mirror to see another 2 or 3 cars follow me...:D

Mate, I got a fine when walking across a pedestrian crossing on amber (well the little man turned red while I was walking across).
I've often wondered what happen when people get caught jaywalking (not suggesting you were, by the way, just an aside). Do they confiscate your pedestrian licence, forcing you to drive everywhere? Or perhaps impound your shoes, forcing you to stay at home or in the pub? |

Re: Got fine for going through an amber light
Despite the rules, in QLD to the aussies red means stop, green means go and amber means go fast.

I was seriously scanning for hidden cameras thinking it was a wind up, such was the stupidity of the situation. |
