All of this may be exorbitantly expensive but I would start looking for *experts* in this field. Here in the US the state universities specialising in agriculture are the places to go; are there similar institutions in the UK?
I wouldn't take a second dog in for testing. The vet might insist on repeating the test if the dog wasn't showing expected results of having been recently vaccinated.

All sounds good, till I hear this will lower the level if it's the disease causing it, but it won't touch a vaccine!

In a way, no decrease would imply that there's no active disease going on.
I know there must be a way to differentiate between having the active disease and having had the jab. They'd look for live bacteria. Having said that I can only say try to find THE lepto virus expert in the UK!

There's nowt I can do now till Monday when we see if 1) this anti biotics will do anything, but I think this is what your saying that it won't, and 2) to see if we can find somewhere to board the dog till he'll got a low enough level to be allowed to fly.
How long for this level to drop after the vaccine went in appears to be on par with the question, how long is a piece of string ...

Re: Good news and BAD news!
Ok, just to update.
Been a VERY hectic few days what with the Northampton meet yesterday and we have the house shippers here tomorrow and Wed, but throw into that MANY phone calls here and there and I think I need a good again!
Well firstly we're back crossing fingers that this 2nd blood test on the 14th of March 'might' still show a figure that will allow the dog to fly on the 18th, which has been provisionally booked with 'new' pet shippers! If he fails that, then he will be kenneled with someone arranged by this new shipper outfit (deserve a plug, Jets4Pets) until fit to go!
Our vets have admitted responsibility and will pay for all costs that occur to get him to Oz ...
I to start said I was 100% to blame for this cock up, but have had many people inc someone from DEFRA tell me it ISN'T totally down to me as the vet SHOULD'VE been aware this vaccine CANNOT be used on dogs goin to Oz. It WAS made clear where he was going on all the notes at the vets, and as I say their insurance will cop the bill for it all.
Sooooo, back to fingers crossed for the 14th, but if at the worst case scenario he fails that too, then he stays put till he's ready and then comes to Oz.
NOT ideal, but considering we WILL get our doggy one day, we are ALL feeling pretty happy today! ...
Back to clearing out the loft for me now, altho god knows where all that stuff up there came from! ...
Last minute Paul!

Good luck for the 14th, how did Golden Arrow take the news that you won't be using them?
Just that we were considering them until I read this post, how do the others compare cost wise to ship Mutley out?
Keep us all posted, if the power of hope is strong enough you should be fine we are all hoping for a happy ending here!!

Ah that's great Paul. Must have been a massive relief to know you weren't going to have to foot the bill for all that and as you say, even if it takes a bit longer, your pooch will soon be joining you in Oz. In a weird way, not having your pooch around during the first few months might actually make things a bit easier since you'll have masses of other things to stress about.

Re: Good news and BAD news!
Firstly thanks everyone, yeah we're feeling a LOT more at ease about the dog now. We're still crossing fingers for the 14th, but to be honest not holding much hope really as I'm sure this vaccine will have kicked right in by then, but you never know!
Well to be honest they wasn't too bad and have handed over the number for the dogs import which they'd applied for. This was asked for by Jets4Pets so they can provisionally book mutters a flight for the 18th IF all goes well.
The other half GA as she wanted to talk to one of the blokes there. This was the bloke who when she said to him "I could wring the vets neck" , he replied "I could wring YOUR blokes neck!" ...
To be honest at the end of the day they put all the blame on me and once they realised the problem, as good as washed their hands with us! ... Couldn't offer any boarding, altho I'd been told at the start that there was a dog there with the same prob boarding waiting to go!
I've ALWAYS raved about them as I've read MANY people on here say good things. I even posted a load of their literature on here to 'try' and help them out, but to be honest once the goin got tough, they slipped out of the side exit if you ask me!
Jets4Pets have been absolutely excellent since I got in touch. This started with a 55 min conversation about what THEY reckoned to do, and then the next morning I had another long conversation with the main guy there who has suggested a few diff things that might help.
This same guy has spoke to AQIS in Brussels today about if the dog still shows a high reading on the 14th, will a course of this drug I mentioned earlier in the thread, well will a 5 day course be good enough for them to allow the dog to enter Australia! He phoned them, and kinda primed the way for my call this afternoon, and I'm expecting a call from the top guy there tomorrow morning (or later today technically) to see if they'll accept that!
Oh and in case your wondering why Brussels? ... as I did, and he said cos AQIS in Australia will be asleep ...
Sorry, waffling a bit.
Golden Arrow wanted £1460 and I had to take the dog to Shropshire too (few hours drive I guess from here), and Jets4Pets today quoted me £1,100 and I can take the dog to Heathrow myself, which is 20 odd mins way! ...
I'm NOT just saying this, but this Jets4Pets mob REALLY seem to care ...
Both people I've spoke to said they was happy to help regardless of whether we use them or not. Ok, maybe just being nice to get the job, but I don't actually think that really.
I'd give me a call for a quote.
They have a website too which is handy!

I contacted this jets4pets and they quoted me just over 800 pounds to export Gordon including pet carrier. I have to drop him off myself at heathrow, but I thought it was reasonably priced and they responded to my query the next day.
They do seem quite good.
