We are also headed GC way, hopefully early Dec. Planning to recce Pac Pines, Helensvale and Robina to live but first looking for short term rental to get us over the holiday period - looks like that could be the most expensive and difficult bit of all. 4 of us going, me OH and 2 girls 12 and 14, 14 year old keeps telling us she is not going though (may have to drug he to get her on the plane)

We think we will be ending up in gold coast. still not rulling out sunshine but gc has more going for us at the mo. our plan was to go jan 08 but we have been talking about sept 07, if i can get some stuff sorted by then. There's me sam, OH, stu and daughter, 10. looking at somewhere as close to the sea as money can take us - but not very close at mo. will have to rob a few more banks:D

burleigh heads looks nice but a little to far out for us! looking all the time though:lol:

We're heading to GC between Oct and Jan 08, no definate date as yet, waiting for house to sell then get flights, shipping etc sorted. Not taking much, just undecided about our cats.:(

Looking at Upper Coomera, Robina, Pacific Pines, and any other areas by those to settle in.:D

Two of our friends left just over a week ago on PR visa to the GC as well, looks like there'll be nothing but Poms there soon.

We are leaving our lovely cat - we've got to find her a good home! it's going to break our hearts though.
Queenslanders aren't big on cats though are they? if they were we would take her but we're not getting a fine if she poops in someones garden etc:eek:

Not aware of any problems owing cats here. If you want to bring her bring her. We left my baby because of her age and we didn't know what we would be doing and the fab lady who bought the house asked if she could have Fluff as well so all good.

No offence you lot, but could you go somewhere else please;):D Mind you if you all park yourselves up top end then that's fine;)

our soon to be 15 year old son just can't wait

~KIDS~:D

must admit the airport senario was worrying me I thought we would just about get her on the plane with tears but now the family are insisting they are coming to the airport to say goodbye - despite our objections - it will be really tough.

well we quite liked the area - ashmore, benowa, carera (sp) etc when we went over for a reccie so we will see which school we like for the kids (may even go as far as varsity lakes for varsity college) and then get a rental in the catchment area.

Broadwater at first for a few months and then not so sure after that - it will depend on the job and childcare! Hopefully somewhere close to both!

Re: The Gold Coast thread...

We're are also heading to GC. We wanted to be there before Sept 07 but our buyer hasn't got the house on the market yet so we are very much in limbo at the mo.

Also looking at Upper Coomera, Robina, Pacific Pines, and any other areas by those to settle in. We've 3 children so we'll have to look at schools as well - I quite fancy hinterland but my OH mate lives in Ashmore so he can't be too far just in case they want to go fishing LOL.

Re: The Gold Coast thread...

Been on GC for only 2 weeks now. in a rental apartment @ AU$490.00 a week!! TFN, medicare, driving licence, banking, start work 9/7/07, etc all done. The only thing we need to do now is find a home. OMG!!!! What a shock to the system............... We came over last December for validation/recci, and we were looking at a land/house package. AU$300k would buy you the home of many a Brits dream, and ours. That dream TODAY has jumped to AU$450k..................I kid you not. So, all you lucky people coming to the GC, bring your big fat wallets with you, you will need them!

This brings back memories, of our 13 yr old daughter who didnt want to come over. She is now settled and even has a boyfriend but be warned, whenever any little thing goes wrong or she falls out with her friends, she is adamant it wouldnt have happened in England, because all her friends were perfect, life was perfect etc etc (you get the picture)

I think that if she went back to England she will probably see the reality of the situation and be crying to get straight back on the plane to Australia.

We're already on the GC, and there really isn't any more room for the Villa, try Perth perhaps...;)
We're on Chevron Island but intend to move in December. I like Ashmore, it's a great location for everything, but I'm not sure if it's a little too suburban, more exploring to be done. I'm looking inland a little too, some areas have been mentioned on here, and for those lucky enough to be going to the Broadbeach meet, I will probably invite myself round if I like the sound of where you live! You've been warned....See you all there or at a meet in the future for those stuck in the Mother Land
(KRO;))
