Default going rate for engineering

Bit of a vague question i guess... but i have had a firm job offer from a company in Perth... i want to check that the wages offered are not too low..

for a design engineer in the mining / railway associated business what would you expect the average wage to be? preferably without including the superannuation payment (if that makes sense?) any help would be appreciated!

Many thanks

Steve

I work for Rio Tinto and we use a lot of engineers. I don't know any figures as we employ them through EPCM's but I can tell you that we are so desperate for engineers you can almost name your price. I would have thought you would easily be into 6 figures whereas $80K is generally accepted as being the figure a family needs to be comfortable over here so you would be well off.

Obviously it depends on seniority / experience. But you do need to be the right sort of engineer. Our HR manager is returning to the UK soon - one of the reasons is that her hubbie is an engineer but can't find work.

$120k-$150k A Year I Would Say

Plus Super, Housing, Medical Assistance, Any Benefits May Reduce Your Salary.

My Mate Is Up In Karratha, Takes Home $7000 A Month, Outlay Is $50 A Week For Rent, And Bills Which Isnt Much.

Dont Forget You Get Tax Allowance If You Are Remote, And Can Get Deductions On Flights To And From Your Home.
