Default Going into the unknown.........

Hi guys,

Great forum! I am desprate to move my family from the U.K to Australia, i am fed up with the U.K and want a better life for my kids, i have a 5 year old and a 2 year old, i am married also, i am 27 and my wife is 28

The problem is, i dont have any family or friends living in Australia, and i wouldn't know where to move to, what part of Australia,i was thinking maybe Perth? i need to think of what would be best for my kids and the best way of life for a family also job opportunities for my wife and myself, i am a carer for the disabled and elderly and my wife has just finished her degree and is looking for a teacher training role, would these jobs get me a visa? can i throw a few questions out there for anyone in the know

Can my Dad come with me? he is 61 years old

can you migrate to Australia if you have no family?

Do you need £10k in your bank to move?

Do you have to have a credit score check before you can get a visa?

The main reason i am moving is to give my wife and kids the best way of life possible and i am fed up of ' Broken Britian' and it's only going to get worse! i would really like to find somewhere no to far from a beach and not to far from a city....... dont want much do i!! lol....

Im sorry for sounding like a total newbie!!! but i dont know where to start!!

Thankyou for any help/advice you can give!

thanks guys

Hi paul most people choose the area from where they can expect to find a job or from going over and doing a trip or from doing loads of research on the various states as to climate cost of houses etc.

as to your other questions I can't help a lot but if you look and post in the immigration section you may find all the answers you need, meanwhile welcome to the forum have fun an good luck with the research

Best place to find out if you are eligible for a visa is www.immi.gov.au you can search all visa types and find out whether your job gives you enough points
Can my Dad come with me? he is 61 years old

can you migrate to Australia if you have no family?
yes! we dont know a soul in Oz!
Do you need £10k in your bank to move?
No not at all, you do need to make sure you can support yourself financially for 2yrs should you not get work
Do you have to have a credit score check before you can get a visa?

Your other half will need a minimum of 12 months full time paid experience at being a Teacher. Have to point out that in lots of subjects there are very few Teaching posts in Aus.
Yes you can migrate with no family there.
No you don't need to take any money (but how would you support your family) as you'll need to take Aussie qualifications to get care work.
Don't need credit score.
Your dad may be able to follow you out to Aus, but would be big delay even if he could come out you could be looking 5 years plus before he'd get near a visa.

Rest of post, if you're looking to escape UK to go to a country you know nothing about and you have no family nor friends there, what makes you think your life will be better in Aus? You could end up there and really struggle to find work and have outside support network
I'd say is better if someone looks for reasons they are drawn to live somewhere rather than stating they're trying to escape their life and have a better one somewhere else.
Why not take a trip over to Aus explore places you think you'd like to live, do lots of research on Australia and once you're other half is fully qualified and secured a full time teaching post, then think about your next step. You will have a few years before you'll be able to get a visa so use it well. Australia can be good for some and not so good for others

Yes, good point.

Paul, you mention 'broken Britain' its easy to see the negatives of a place when living there. Australia has its share of issues too.
A good starting point is to sit down with your family and create a picture of what your ideal life would include. Describe what you want and why its important. Once you are sure what you want, you can begin researching locations that will fullfill those dreams...

Best Wishes Louise

You must first see if you qualify for a visa and if you occupation is on the list. Look at www.immi.gov.au or contact an agent. Go Matilda for example have an excellent reputation on this site and most will evaluate your possibilities for no fee.

Can my Dad come with me? he is 61 years old

Basically no. Unless he applies for a visa under a different catagory such as a parent visa or the like.

can you migrate to Australia if you have no family?

Yes - Having family here is not important to the visa process.

Do you need £10k in your bank to move?

No - The amount of money you have is competely irrelevent to the visa process.

Do you have to have a credit score check before you can get a visa?

No - Your credit rating in the UK is not looked at and nobody cares. Your rating will start here at zero regardless of how good or bad it is.

Hi there Paul, there are many, many people like yourself who move to australia in search of a better life for the family.

If I were you, I would spend several days reading through the thousands of threads in not only the "australia" section, but also the "moving back to the uk" section. You need to get a good feel for all the pro's and con's..

One other piece of advice would be this - If you believe that things in Australia are cheaper, then think again. They are not. Broadly speaking, life in Australia will be just as expensive for you and your family as it is in the UK.

I don't want to put you off though. Australia is a fantastic country.

Thanks for the reply! and the other guys to, i should have explained my post a bit better also that i have been looking into Australia for a few weeks Pro's and Con's, i know this was my first post on this forum but i have been on other's, it's just this one has so many people on!

I am attracted to Australia regardless of how bad i think life has got in the U.K, but i do have two young children i need to think about and give them the best life possible and the U.K is finished in my opinion, i also am not deluding myself that Australia is some crime free, tax free haven , but i am not escaping "my" life in the U.K, just the U.K itself, i am willing to work hard in Australia and know im not going on a long holiday im also looking for better weather

I agree with the idea of coming to OZ first to get a feel for the place, i will be doing that hopefully next year.... maybe spend 6-8 weeks going around a finding the right place,as it's a massive part of my plans to find a family friendly area, there are two people i know in my area who have been to Perth and they cant praise the place enough, one is moving in Nov 2008 to Manduhra in Perth, so i have been picking their brains and getting the low down, but there is nothing like experiencing it for yourself......only thing is i promised the kids a pool!!

Thanks again for answering my questions and your replies!!

thanks a million

Before you make too many plans.....I suggest you check whether or not you can get a visa.

From what you have said about your wife's and your occupations I think you may struggle.

Do you have any qualifications?

Are you a registered nurse?

carers may be in demand but that does not mean that you would be eligible for a visa.

That would be your best bet.....they can advise you on your options....and also tell you if you have no chance at the moment.

You need minimum nvq 3 and is only 50 point occupation, so without sponsorship will be a struggle, very difficult route to go down. I should know I already explored this one, NVQ 3 & 9 years experience, I was short on points and getting NVQ passed in care isn't straight forward

Better off waiting for your mrs to get her qualifications n experience.
