Getting it right!
#1
How did you all find your places to live?? Am finding the task of 'picking' one very bewildering. Have got family moving to taz, but we where looking at QLD, Brisbane...to be a 'little' more precise. Have got 3 kids which makes the task of getting it right more important!
Cheers very muchly.

We're not there yet so probably not too much help, but we chose Brisbane because we did a trip to various places in Oz and it was our favourite. This has only (!) left us with the task of finding somewhere there to live - we decided what kind of things are important to us (distance to CBD for OH work, distance to sea, availability of large blocks) and have now chosen 3 areas we are interested in that all meet those requirements. We have booked holiday accommodation in two areas for a total of 5 weeks when we get there and will spend the first week or two driving around "hoping" we find somewhere right for us.
We have used realestate.com.au and ourbrisbane.com to get familiar with all the various suburbs, then searched BE threads for info on ones that sound good. We have 2 children and also want to get it right - but I think you have to be prepared to be flexible - if our 3 areas don't feel right then we will look elsewhere.

Also try looking at http://www.reiq.com.au/BuySellRent/c...yID=1&show=all
It gives demographic profiles of all the suburbs.
We knew we wanted to live on acreage so used Realestate.com to find areas where we could find this within our price range. We also didn't want to be too far from the city in case Jim ever had to work there, so, as somebody has already suggested, that should probably be your starting point. Then decide if you need to be near the coast, near hills or forests, close to restaurants etc.
Narrow down your options and take a good look round when you get here and decide what works for you. One person's paradise is another's vision of hell and you won't know for sure what's right for you until you get here.
Good Luck,
Jane

It's so hard deciding where to settle isn it. I have 3 children 17, 12, & 5 so a real mixture of ages, I did a lot of research on the net and read an awful lot of threads on here, we decided on the GC which have not regretted we live about 10mins from surfers in a town called Robina. It is very family friendly and plenty of things for kids of all ages and a good selection of schools. We had never been to Queensland before so had no expectations just made decisions when we arrived.
We are 5mins from beautiful beaches or you can drive up into the mountains plenty of good shopping and good nightlife if you want it. You can look at the price of property on realestate.com.au if this helps.
good luck with everything jodi.
