Default Getting power service without a credit score

Hello everyone,

Although I have been a taxpayer for years in Queensland, I don't have a credit score. I know this because my bank turned me down for a credit card. I retired recently from a job which had accomodation and power etc provided, so now I need to sign up with an electricity supplier for the first time in Australia.

Is there a provider who will accept me, can anyone advise?

Here's some general info about energy and credit checks:

https://www.canstarblue.com.au/elect...cks-explained/

Note this para towards the end of the page: "It’s worth pointing out that retailers are not allowed to deny customers access to a standing offer regardless of their credit score. Credit history checks can only be used to determine a particular customer’s suitability for a market contract."

Quite agree.

Years ago I worked quite closely with Credit Reference agencies and back then, access to power was classed as a basic human right (like access to water) and no supplier of either could refuse to supply power or water to someone who needed it - regardless of their credit score (or lack of one).
