You know what mate I used to get wound up by it too. Then I realised not everyone is happy here and everyone has their own personal story.

A great leveller for me was not finding work, how ironic was that. It made my life shit and everything felt like it was shit at the time. It was the best thing that could have happened as I realised life here aint a bed of roses when things go pear shaped, money, job, family or whatever, we can all see things through different glasses.....

So let people whinge. Think yourself lucky you aint got nuffink to whinge about. Jeez I know I do .....tomorrow it could be any of us

In case you are referring to the latest thread on costs. That was not pommy whinging. Somebody asked what is cheaper and people are *replying*. Pommy whinging is something else entirely.

I have plenty but I choose not do it on an Internet forum.
I fundamentally believe that:
If you are not happy with something in your life then do something to sort it out
If you can't/don't want to sort it out then put up and shut up

Imagine getting blood donated from someone who has excessive hair, one could wake up in the morning with a minge like the beard of Osama.

yeh I hear you but some people like to get it off their chest and if they've got no one to listen to them then BE is/can be the next best thing.

To be fair mate that IS what BE is about. That would be like me saying "don't come on BE for any kind of fun or discussion or to give your opinion cos we don't want to hear it."

BE is many things to many people and everyone has a voice mate:sunglasses:

And another thread about something worth discussing turns into 2 1/2 pages of bitching.

And FWIW I don't think that people should be paid for blood donations any more than they should be for organ donation. Compensation for transportation costs to the collection centre and maybe compensation for lost wages but not payment for the actual donation.

One of my employers in the UK used to bus all willing donors to give blood every so often - no loss of wages or costs incurred to participants. I don't know if they got a tax break for it, or if it just satisfied their 'charitable' urges, but that could be one way for reserves to be raised.

wow that sounds a bit scathing..... I think for most people its something we do because we've always been aware of the need for it- simple as - no ulterior motives other than its something one human being can do for another- no thanks & cartainly no pay needed.... shame we're not deemed fit to donate in Australia

The comment wasn't about blood donors and it certainly wasn't meant to be scathing.

The company I was referring to did many charitable acts for the local community (well, before they upped and moved down to Wembley and told us all 2 weeks before Christmas that we'd be made redundant the following year ) hence my wondering why the company gave up staff time.

Yer I worker for a couple of companies in the uk who did that too.

If they paid for blood donations you would have people who were desperate for money lying on their forms. No of course I don't take drugs, share needles, haven't had a tattoo, been pierced, been to a malaria prone place, and no of course I am not English. I just watch a lot of English shows and have picked up a twang....

In all seriousness, you could easily end up with dodgy blood.

All blood is screened, not sure how effective the screning is though? And if they paid for blood donations I'd imagine the administration cost alone would far outweigh the benefits

I used to be a blood donor at the Red Cross in Clarence Street, Sydney, I worked a few doors away and it was a bludge from work for an hour or so, about 4 or 5 of us would go and sit and have a bit of cake and a milkshake and a packet of Smarties afterwards.

Yes I gave XX litres of blood until they decided that if you had lived in the UK from 198? to 198? you couldn't donate anymore in case you had Mad Cow's Disease although there was no test for it.........

So what happened to my prior donations then???
