Getting a Mortgage when in OZ
#1
Hi,
Can anyone help me???
Hopefully going to move to Melbourne next year & would like any advice as to whether we can get a mortgage straight away. I'm a chippy & hopefully will be on about $30 per hr (approx 60K per year).
Also how much, roughly, does a container cost from the uk & is it really worth taking everything or just buy new when we are there.
We have 4 kids, 3 of which are boys, so football is a big thing to them, are there many kids teams in Melbourne?
Just 1 more question if anyone can help. i have alot of 110v tools, is it worth taking them or buy new?
Thanks
Pinny

It depends on...
The price of the property versus the deposit you will have
Permanent or temporary visa (depending on deposit)
Is the job permanent (F/T )
Is there a probation period
If the answer to these are positive then yes, no problem.
Cheers,
Mark.

I bought a house within 4 months of arriving with a mortgage - no worries as i had a large deposit and got the first home owner grants!

Answered yes to Full time job & have large deposit to put down. Also permanent Visa. What does a "probation period" mean.

You'll ideally need 3 months of payslips and a end of year tax notice for a decent mortgage. Talk to a broker when you get here - I reccomend Mortgage Choice and they could get you a self cert. Note you'll also need 20% deposit for a decent rate or you'll have to pay mortgage insurance.

Quite often you are given say 3 months to prove you are not a complete clown and can do the job
After which you are given a permanent position

First home owners also get help from the States. For example in WA there is no stamp duty up to 500,000 for first home owners. Other state all have different rules and levels.
