Hi
I've searched the site and can't seem to find anything so hopefully someone out there may be able to help?
My wife and I (both originally from UK) moved to Sydney 13 years ago. We closed down our bank accounts there and as we are no longer residents of the UK cannot open one up.
We would like to take advantage of the exchange rate and purchase an investment property over there but it seems to be much harder than I thought.
Has anyone had a similar experience and have you had any success???
Thanks

I got mortgage approval in 2009 for Halifax, for a 75% loan. Wan't too hard at all but I used a broker to arrange. These were the guys who arranged: http://www.contractormortgagesuk.com/, are focussed on IT contractors but may do others.

In terms of getting a mortgage, there are specialist expat mortgage brokers that you could use. Also at one point Barclays did expat mortgages, don't know if they still do but worth a look.

These are the contact details of the broker who got us an expat mortgage with the Halifax, three years ago. Service was very good, if somewhat expensive.
