Default getting married - visa implications

Oliver has applied for the Aussie visa 47sk and im named as the partner. Weve been thinking about getting married before we go, mostly just cos we want to but also because it would make my Mums day to see us married and have us 'legal' in her eyes.

My current problem is will this affect our application, when we did defacto statements neither of us menioned getting married just that we knew we would but nothing planned. Also, should we then have applied for the prospective spouse visa...... Im confused.

Id be really grateful if someone could let me know it will be okay or not. Ive also posted thie on the Immigration forum but thought there was more chance of replies here!

We're doing the same thing...filled in the 47sk as an engaged /defacto couple but will be married by the time we get the visa. When you get a case officer, you tell him of the changes in circumstances and send him certified copies of your new doc;marriage cert/passport ect.Its not a big problem, just more paperwork.

Yep we are doing the same thing. You simply advise of the change in circumstances. If anything it backs up your defacto relationship. Won't cause a problem. They are more interested in what name you are travelling under so If you are changing your name you will also need to advise them of new passport details and give them a certified copy.

You will need statuatory declarations that have been certified. 3 each from family and friends and also 1 for yourselfs that can be either joint or individual. It's basicaly about your relationship and how friends an family view your relationship. You will also need photo's the 2 of you together and with each others parents if possible.

I have attached a sample for the stat decs that our agent gave us.

We didn't have to do all that we've been together 6 years and living together (with a mortgage) for 5, all we had to do was show we we're living together and the mortgage was in joint names aswell as utility bills with joint names etc. We didn't send any photos or statements or anything - however if you don't live together I think you have to do all that (to prove the relationship is real I guess) but since you have had your joint mortgage that amount of time I wouldn't worry too much!!

As far as I understand it this is standard for defacto relationships, we've been together 7 years and had a mortgage for 2 1/2. You might be better starting a new thread on this in the emmigration forum to get others advise as well.

STATUTORY DECLARATION is standard, we have been together 13 years, living together 10 needs to be done by everyone but you really only need to prove the last 2 years. Oliver and i had great fun trawling through old photos and adding them to our declaration.

Note to all.

Viccollie and I are defacto - granted visas, and have the proviso therein that we CANNOT marry before entry.

After 15 years, now feel like making a 'marriage of contrariness'

I would suggest get an agents advice (immi forum), or CO's express permission if visa is already granted, before booking the service.

See y'all G.

hi, can you tell me what kind of visa you are going on? I did wonder if your advice was because of the type of visa you were planning on migrating on. Lisa.x

[QUOTE=oliverandlisa]Hmmm, thats what we are on, did they clarify why you cant marry?

No they didn't clarify it at all just a very emphatic 'you can't get married', might be because they thought we'd marry someone else rather than each other as a sneaky way of getting others in on spouse visa!!!

Or maybe cause they don't want confusion at the customs when we arrive with different name on my passport and no orangey stamp thing!

Or maybe because they can!
We don't care, we're flying out on Sunday and it's a bit short notice to get 'big do ' sorted!
