Geraldton?
Hi - just found out we are gonna be living in Geraldton (?SP) when we get our visa through (fingers crossed end of May).
????Anyone know anything about the place????? - as I can't find much on the internet - other than stuff about a wreck, wildflowers and Monkey Mia and Perth being relatively near by.
Any info appreciated.

Re: Geraldton?
there is a lovely church in geraldton and the town seemed quite pleasant, monkey mia is a nice area to go to but getting a bit commercialised, but the sea fishing there is superb
but the beach in geraldton is rather overshadowed by some sort of industrial eyesore, i will try and find a pic of me on the beach there

Hi we too are looking to go to Geraldton! We have a couple of other places we are going to look at, but we decided we did not want to be stuck in suburban Perth, and so have been looking at some of the country towns, and Geraldton really appeals to us. I have a few links at home, that I will post on here later for you.
The accomodation is cheaper, there is a lot of money being invested in the regions tourist industry at the moment, so it seems to be a good time to invest in the area. Obviously jobs are less plentiful, but sounds like you have that side of it covered.
What takes you to Geraldton?? I am no expert but have done a fair bit of research on this area, so feel free to ask me any more questions, or just to have a chat about the area.

Re: Geraldton?
We went for a week xmas 2001-2. I liked the place but the wife didn't. The wind REALLY picks up in the afternoon. Beaches at vv long and deserted at the south end but near the front/town centre!!?? for want of a better word it is really nice for families etc. Get in touch with the tourist information centre, they sent us all sort's of stuff inc a map of the town; www.geraldtontourist.com.au
When you go you've got to go to Kalbarri 2-4 hrs above. Really nice. Go to the Natural Window. In a gorge but it's erroding and wont be there for long.
On the down side it can wiff a bit at Geraldton. They get a lot of seaweed on the beach and it smells. The fishing is great but as usual we didn't catch much! The drive up to Perth can only be described as interesting the first time you do it but the novelty soon wears off. It gets a bit boring! Oh and did I mention the wind really blows. Good luck
