Phoning a bank doesn't necessarily mean you get to speak to someone sensible.

Many banks are childish about opening accounts for non-residents, however if you have opened an account as a resident they are unlikely to force you to close it when you move overseas.

Actually, I don't think that's the case. I recall (and I stand to be corrected here) that so long as you have had UK earnings in one of the last 6 years you can make pension contributions into a UK scheme ...

Best regards.

The thing is, the best UK savings accounts are for UK residents.

Does anyone know:

1. Can I keep savings in the UK so long as I opened the savings account while I was a UK resident?

2. If not, would an offshore sterling account be appropriate? Any recommendations?

3. Anyone know of any sterling savings accounts in Oz?

Hi There , just opened a HSBC account that will entitle me to gain access to account in oz (at most banks in every state) there is a charge but its not too bad if you withdrawer a big amount ,and can access it as normal in U.K. They also have off shore accounts as do nationwide just check charges for stirling to dollar payments..................charges for everything hey? :scared:

Do you mean a UK HSBC account?

If so, then check the charges for accessing that account in HSBC branches in Australia, it won't be cheap. Nor will it be possible to have an Australian salary paid into it.
