Default Gardening in Adelaide

Hi all,

We have just been granted our SIR visa and so my OH is now looking for work as a Gardener/Landscaper/Grounskeeper etc (something along a Horticultural line). We are likely to be moving to Adelaide in early May next year, and just wondered how easy it is to get this kind of work.

We have done all the normal internet searches, looked on the Ozzie job pages etc, and this kind of work seems quite scarce, although Gardening is on the SOL list.

Does anyone on here work as a Gardener in Adelaide? Do you need any qualified staff (might as well ask, eh?) Or if not, are there a lot of self-employed Gardeners travelling with a Ute and a mower picking up work round the suburbs? Over here in the UK, he is self-employed and doesn't mind having to do that again, as he is a real grafter.

Would appreciate any good advice, as we are a bit concerned about coming over in the Ozzie autumn and struggling to find Matt a job, as it is part of the SIR conditions that he works as a Gardener of some kind.

Thanks a lot

Traci xx

Yep, loads of gardening rounds (self employed, franchised etc) about. Also places like Mawson Lakes and other newer estates have big gangs of gardeners going round all the time.

Wendy I think they are from the council and all have some sort of disability. Was reading something a while back. Can't remember just what it was .

Hi Traci,

We've just been given our SIR visa and it sounds like it's the same as yours, my husband is a gardner too. We have booked our tickets and will be out ther in July 08. If you find out any info could you pass it on and visaversa.

Thanks Teena
