Default Garage Sales

Hi All

Are garage sales a fast and economical way to furnish the house when moving in an unfurnished house …
As new migrants, there is not only budget issue but also we don’t want to buy stuffs that may not fit in the house we are hoping to buy after a year.

Any thoughts about this…!!!!!!!!

Is it correct to say garage sales are done on Saturdays in Perth

Karen.

Never looked at it like that before! Suppose it could be if you had the patience to look around.
Most sales are Saturdays and Sundays and usually advertised in the free local papers.
Are you here now or due over soon?

Hello Lynne

Thank for ur note.
We're off for Perth next friday..
This is why we are trying to figure out what could be the fastest and most econmomical way to furnish if we can't find a furnished house.

They have this weird system here where every few months people chuck their unwanted furniture out on the pavement and eventually the council comes round and takes it away. In the meantime the locals wander round the streets picking up the bits of furniture they like, and taking it home to use. The Bloke came home one night with a rusty wobbly table, assuring me that this is normal practice and that people really do furnish their homes this way in preference to buying stuff......

Hello Polly

I'm sure there must be some goodies or are they all rusted or torn stuffs.
Do they advertise - How to know there is a garage sale somewhere?

Take a look in the Quocka, (a weekly paper), they are advertised in there.
As you drive around the suburbs, you will also see signs advertising garage sales. You can pick up some good bargains there.

Loads advertised in the local paper, haven't checked them out yet, but many say, full house clearance (when people are relocating).
Good Luck

Hi, garage sales are advertised in the local papers for the weekend, Also if you are trying to furnish it cheaply, in the quoka there is a free section where people advertise things they want rid of, but don't want any money for it, you have to collect or/and dismantle. Probably worth a look if it is only to put you on.

Picked up 4 undamaged KISS albums from the local tip once, when anyone could savenge. Not a scratch on them.

Each year councils award scavenging rights (contracts) to people to get useful items from the tip..... and yes, the stuff is seriously guarded once scavenged. I know the bloke who has the rights to the local tip back home. He has the salvaged stuff undercover, and watched over by a Rottwieler guard-dog.

There is a note at the local shopping centre here in Perth (Carine Glades) that someone is selling everything in their house (Beds, TC, fridge, washing machine etc) for $2500.00
