To assume is to make an ass of u and me...

It's all bollocks anyway, lets be honest.... no-one knows anything about what it's going to do. Until such time as it calms down I'll just watch my monthly income go up and down like a whores drawers!

We all focus on Australia because it is important to us but in the scheme of things, the Aus economy is very small. The £/A$ exchange rate is really a by-product of the £/US$ and A$/US$ exchange rates.

Sterling has strengthed against the US$ but that has been more than outweighed by the strengthening of the A$ against the US$, net result being that sterling is lower against the A$.

...strengthening as we speak.
at 1.98

The attached AUD/GBP line chart for the last 25 years may prove insightful.

You can see from 1998 through to 2002 were the best years for your Sterling to Aussie transactions (close to 2.5 to 1 quite often).
From 1990 to 1996, the rate was closer to 2 to 1 more of the time.

Clearly, from the data, we are moving back towards a cycle of the AUD being stronger, and less bucks for your sterling as a result.

For anyone coming over and unhappy with the current 2 to 1 rate, just reflect back to 1984 when you were only getting 1.30 to 1 !
That will cheer you up ;-)

Strange that, I hardly recall this at all.

What I do recall is the UK seeming really expensive compared to Australia back in the 80's especially when it came to Groceries. Now the opposite seems to apply, and with these rates it's going to seem even cheaper.

Blimey if China picks up, and carries Australia along in its wake, then Overseas holidays are really going to seem cheap.

Come on China

2-10 is the resistance level, if it breaks through that we could be in business.

You could say 2.00 is another resistance level and if it breaks through, WE could be in business
i.e as in expats looking to go back for a holiday to Europe ;-)
