Default Funny looking Aussie Birds

Anyone tell me what those geeky looking long necked long legged birds are that are about a foot tall? Bad drawing attached. I tried a few sites but can't locate it

Well, like you said, it was a crap drawing, but funny looking Aussie birds about a foot high may be egrets. that's my best guess. No doubt some ornithologist on the forum will put me right if I'm wrong.

A good attempt but the one I'm after is more speckled and probably has a much shorter wingspan and I've only seen them so far in an urban(well suburban) environment.. anyone else help??

Unfortunately not, Im trawling around the internet but no success yet. I've only seen two groups, both walking across the road in group of two or three. I live in semi bush area. They look sort of comical (if that helps!) and don't rush to get out of the way of cars (not seen them flying)
