Default Food in Sydney

We're just back from our visa validation trip and I remember some people
worrying about some foodstuffs, so...

* Marmite is sold on the Rocks market. I didn't see the price.

* Woolworths by Town Hall had about 100 kinds of cheese from around the
world.

* The same place had a decent amount of veggie stuff - lots of tofu, veg
cheeses, nine kind sof soy milk, etc.

* The Habourside shopping complex has a british sweetie shop. It looks a
lot like the web site at http://www.thebritishlollyshop.com/ but I'm not
sure if they are the same people.

Everyone was friendly, met us with friends and family, great weather,
fabulous time, hopefully it will convince my wife to migrate...

If it's food that doesn't come in a packet you are after and you are in the city there's

http://www.paddysmarkets.com.au/

Despite the GST, tax invoices and the like, try counting the cash registers!

and http://www.sydneyfishmarket.com.au/ just a tram ride away from Central.

My sister in law from Bangkok insists on going there on most visits to Sydney and they are not infrequent as her children go to school here. And that's despite the Floating Markets in her home town.

Sydney has some fantastic food. The cheeses in the supermarkets are OK but are bland. There is a small variety but most of it is those awful cheeses with nuts or fruit lobbed in. If I want fruit or nuts with my cheese I will buy fresh fruit and nuts.

The only good variety of cheese I have seen is in the David Jones food court. I rarely eat the stuff anyway so the whole cheese thing is bit irrelevant to me.

A lot of neighbourhoods in the Eastern Burbs have excellent local shops that also dish up fantastic produce. We go to the supermarket once a month and buy the rest locally. By weight I think there is more vodka than food in the freezer.
