I am definately going to try and fly on that plane when I go!!
Put all your worries aside.
The plane has had hundreds of flight hours of testing before it went into service. On the test flights, it is fully loaded with equipment, measuring everything you can think off, then thousands more.
New planes aren't more likely to crash. You are more likely to win the lottery jackpot two weeks in a row than be involved in a plane crash.
I can't see it being more of a terrorist threat either. If anything, in my opinion, it'd be less of a threat. Being bigger and more passengers, there are many more staff on board, plus it will have the most up to date security fitted in to the cockpit doors etc I'd imagine. Not that I know much about it.
Don't worry about things like that!!
What I'd be concerned about is the fact that there will be a load of bags to offload meaning longer to wait, plus longer to wait to load/offload passengers. And the chance for many more little brats to be shouting/running around/kicking your seat!!

This is good, I know most of you wont click on "dodgy" links in posts, but for thise that will:
A REALLY UNUSUAL VIEW OF THE COCKPIT OF AN AIRBUS - 380
Make sure you take control and look around (click on rotational icon on
bottom of screen). Middle mouse button allows you to zoom in and out.

Re: FLYING WITH SINGAPORE A380
Hi
It's starts out of London on the 18th March.
We are booked for London to Singapore on it in July. If you are on this way there'll be no problems about baggage unloading as Changi Airport is mega efficient - think it might be different at Heathrow!
I've just been on to seat guru to check out the seating before confirming the tickets and see if we can get an upstairs economy seat rather than downstairs.
As I understand it SIA have been very pleased with it's performance so far and one or two minor glitches but far less than any other aircraft going into service for the first time.
Hopefully someone out there has been on it in to Sydney and can let us know what it's like and where to sit!

Re: FLYING WITH SINGAPORE A380
We're going to try to book ours tomorrow, for 5th of May, A380.
I was going to book it tonight but there's no way to choose seats on the Singaporeair website, is there?
Does anyone know how to book a specific seat? We definitely want to be on the Upper Deck, looks much better.
Last time we went, the company we booked with told us they had booked us for window seats all the way, and we ended up in the middle row 3 flights out of 4.
Still, if there's no other way, I would just try them again, and hope they manage it properly this time, it's better than NOT trying.

Re: FLYING WITH SINGAPORE A380
I remember when we flew with JAL, we got on our plane in Japan and were directed to our seats.
We saw we had been put in Business Class and thought there had been a mistake - it was empty except for us and economy was full.
The steward said there was no mistake and we had the comfiest journey ever.
We for some reason, had dressed up smart but I don't think that had much to do with it, but we didnt care - it was bliss.
I bet first class on the new A380 is nice.
God I would love to be upgraded when we fly.

we've booked our tickets through a travel agent, i didn't ask about booking seats though. we're going to do the online check in thing on the singaporeair website and choose our seats then. can check in online up to 48 hours before the flight departs so i'll be sitting at my computer at 10:59am on 26th march waiting for 11am to come round so i can book my seats!!

Re: FLYING WITH SINGAPORE A380
i saw on another thread somewhere someone was asking about the singapore airlines website whether you could prebook your seats. if i remember correctly the answer was that if you book directly with singapore through their website after you've paid for your ticket and gotten confirmation of your booking then you are able to choose your seat but you can't choose until after you've paid already! maybe do a search to see if you can find this thread.

Thats a good point actually. I wonder what the best seats to have if there is just Mr PP and myself - the most room.
Its always nice when the plane isnt full and you can spread out on the next seat.

Re: FLYING WITH SINGAPORE A380
...yes, but its only doing 1 of the 3 daily LHR-SIN flights the SQ317 which is the day flight to SIN leaving at either 1100 or 1200 depending on the season. I think one day a week it also operates the SQ319 which is the early evening flight.
The other flights remain on 747.
I think the A380 offers much better comfort and from people I know who've been on it very impressed....very quiet apparently.
