Is the flight to Australia any more turbulent than a flight to Europe? As you may have guessed I'm a bit of a wuss!

no just more boring!! my advise is tho, sit on an aisle so you can get up as many times as you want with out disturbing anyone.

Me too! Dont sit at the back of the plane as you feel the turbulence more. Try and sit as close to the front as your cattle class ticket allows!!!

Flown to Oz 4 time's it is very boring, like Denhim said sit in the aisle and walk about as much as you can, we found that they provide snack's that you can help youself too, located where the stewardess prepare the food, our 2 son's 11 & 8 coped really well with the flight.

Have flown straight through from UK to Oz a couple of times on Quantas 747's (refuelling in Singapore) which was ok but very boring, although some good films on the flight.

Came over in January with a 2 day stop in Singapore. Good for catching up with the old body clock!. Went to catch flight to Melbourne and found ourselves on a smaller 737. This was a bit more bumpy than the bigger planes, but cut about 1 and a half hours off the normal flight time. Would prefer it anyday!

Read somewhere that turbulence would have to be so bad as to wreck the fittings inside the plane before it became likely to be a problem for the plane itself. Was someone just being nice to me? was a comforting thought in the plane.

I do sympathise because I am also petrified of flying, but on my flight there was suprisingly little turbulence. I think the higher they go the better because they can get above the weather. but don't underestimate the length, it is very boring. Good luck

Oh and another thought. Dont be afraid to talk to other passengers. On the way back i got talking to this lad about my age and found out he to was a boro fan even tho he was living in Manchester. We have since become good mates and keep in touch through e-mails and txt`s.

In a previous post I mentioned that I used to hate flying untill I got a self hypnosis tape off the Web.

I was sceptical at first but I gave it a fair go and it worked a treat.

Hypnosis cured my wife's smoking too, only problem is whenever she came back from the hypnotist she had a sore arse....?

Just a thought- we had a posting some time ago re where to go on route and when Ben mentioned Singapore I thought I would say what we are doing.

We are going with Singapore airlines (far better than Quantas/ BA which i flew last time), and stopping in Singapore for 5/6 days. There is an island off the base (no boats (yep- I am also afraid of boats!) it's connected by a road, called Santosa Island and apprenetly it's a real theme island as well as having fab beaches. The main hotel is the Shangri La Santosa and is 5 star. Trainfinders seem to have a good rate and we were quoted 250 squid for 3 nights for the 3 of us. Figure it's a great mini break as well as getting the body clock adjusted before we hit Oz ar long last. It doesnt cost any extra to stop off either. Therefore great for kids and us too!!

Also Remmie do a search on the web under 'fear of flying' and you will come across some excellent sites which really put your fears at rest (or as far as posssible)!

Its a pain in the bum or you will get one, but a little tip book with a Arab or muslim owned airline they will be the last to be Hi-jacked or blown out of the sky little Johnny's games has already cost 88 Australian lifes.
