Hi,
We have hopefully got the 40kgs sorted with emirates. We told the travel agent when we booked flights we were emigrating and after a lot of toing and froing we have had an e-mail saying we have the allowance.

Just make sure it states 40kg on tickets or you have it in black and white, ie email/letter.

We had a nightmare getting someone either travel agents or airline to put something in writing. We eventually got travel agents to e-mail confirmation of 40kgs allowance.

You have to be flying there on a permanent visa. Get it in writing from them so that you don't have problems at the airport.

Hiya,
just been looking up costs of return V's one way and it's only £200 more for return. Did you consider this or is the extra baggage only allowed on one way?
I also noticed that you get an extra 10kg if you have diving equipment

Could be very heavy baggage :scared:

Bye

Hi,

I have just been through this and all you do is book with emirates direct or on the web site, once you have a booking you can phone them on 0870 2432222 with your booking reference and and they will ask you too fax copies of your passport and unused visa to 01625 445262. Once you have done this it is a good idea to phone a few days later and check it has arrived ok and get them to email a confirmation. 40kg as easy as that!

Perth in September

Regards

Leo

Make sure the bags are booked right through from the UK. If you are breaking up your journey thats when you can have a problem.

Don't get the weight wrong..... we did and they (Emirates) wanted almost £600 at the check-in!

The other half and I could not get the 40kg allowance with Emirates because we had validated our Visas the year before. We eventually went with about 36kg each and 50kg went with an air shipper (cost about £300 and well worth it) so we did end up taking more than 80kg between us anyway. When we got to Birmingham the check-in clerk said that we should have had 40kg each as we were emigrating and we did not have a problem between there and Dubai. We were staying with a friend of mine in Dubai for 3 days and we then did the direct Dubai-Melbourne flight (which was fantastic by the way) we were charged about £120 excess baggage (13kg over but they charged us for 10kg). The main differences were the Birmingham flight was half full whereas the Dubai flight was full. I had it confirmed through my travel agent (who is also a friend of mine) that we could get the extra allowance even though we had validated the visa and we were staying in Dubai for 3 nights, but I did not get this in writing.

You must get it in writing and on the tickets to be sure.
