fluoridated water

i see south east queensland now have fluoride in there drinking water even though most people were against it
australia is one of only six countries that practice this forced medication on its people , and recent research on the subject shows lots of nasty effects to too much fluoride. there must be a reason its banned in all europe eccept ireland
why is australia so insistent on this practice and forever referring back to the u.s.a research done in the 1950`s
theres enough fluoride in toothpaste to protect you teeth .drinking and showering in the stuff thats essentially fertilizer and uranium waste product cant be doing us much good
even fluoride toothpaste states not for children under age five and not to be swallowed
whats the alternative? spend a fortune on bottled waters that dont have too disclaim if they contain fluoride?
or spend around $600 on reverse osmosis filtration products?
may have to stick to the stereotype of the brits having bad teeth and not showering enough
got to be better than bone cancers, dental fluorsis, thyroid problems and hip replacements

Oh good, it's been a while since we discussed this.
Glad I'm not the only tree-hugging hippy around.

It is somewhat disingenous to suggest that fluroride is fertilizer and uranium waste product and infer it is bad for you.
I add hydrochloric acid and chlorine to my swimming pool, both very dangerous poisonous chemicals, but they make the water clean and safe to swim in.

What are you talking about? Most developed countries put it in their water, it's proven to hugely reduce tooth decay. The UK has been adding in for years in some areas

The following is from the Australian Dental Association, presumably a group who would be financially incentivised to want high levels of tooth decay in the population.
"The fluoridation of public water supplies is acknowledged as one of the ten greatest public health
achievements of the 20th century (9, 10). Optimally fluoridated water is currently available to
over 300 million people worldwide including 75% of Australians mainly living in states other than
Queensland. Only 5% of Queenslanders have access to optimally fluoridated water.
The final report of Peter Forster’s 2005 Queensland Health Systems Review acknowledges that
Queensland Health provides the most comprehensive free public dental service in Australia and
yet Queensland residents suffer more tooth decay than residents of the states and territories
where water fluoridation is available."

But not diet coke - because apparently the sweetener gives you cancer !

maybe i should have done a search on the forum to see how this this topic went down last time
supose its one of those subjects your either for or against and both sides can pull up research to support there view
and heres me thinking id get advise on what filters work best or what bottled water to buy
i know its been a big topic of debate in the uk, i just remember a lot more people been vocal against it back there
only 10% of uk water is fluoridated and your right it has been for yonks the midlands and the north east
funny how dental decay in gateshead is same as in liverpool(non fluoridated)
and how its been linked to hypothyoidism in birmingham which topped the uk "fat list" with 22% classed as clinically obese
hydrofluosilic acid is an industrial waste product that is highly toxic, so toxic it cant be dumped at sea. the stuff from finland gets shipped off to the states the stuff from belgium comes to queensland
like i said banned in europe....so we drink it
makes you wonder if they pay us to take it off there hands
but my main issue is with the ethics of medicating a public water supply with no control over dosage or age restrictions
nobody is so poor they cant afford fluoride toothpaste or tablets
why force it on us?
if you dont think fluoride is a poison do a google search
or type "what advanced chronic fluoride poisoning looks like" into youtube

Lot's of things are toxic, Vitamin A for example, however what is important is the quantities in which compounds are ingested.
Looking at the effects of chronic fluoride poisoning on someone who has had long term and high exposure through industrial processes, or in an industrial accident tells us nothing about the safety of water fluoridation.

most developed countries as in the usa, australia, brazil, chile, argentina and columbia i think id rather listen to what the others say like 98% of europe, japan and india there the ones doing the research condeming the stuff.

fluoride is a natural element most of the east coast of the uk has it in this form in the drinking water

Mate I work in the water industry and know all about hydrofluorosilicic acid. It's nasty stuff. Not nearly as nasty as concentrated chlorine. This stuff if it leaks on the water plant site you've about 2 seconds to escape the area or you're dead. This is added to all water supplies the world over. A highly toxic chemical. It's used to kill bacteria. Do you advocate this use or would you rather drink e-coli?
If you don't like the water don't drink it it's as simple as that.

The 'it's a posion' arguement is always used and really isn't relevant.

So how come 22% of lincolnshire isn't obese or 22% of the Illawarra - our water is fluorodated...
Too much fluoride is bad I admit but the amount in your water I feel is beneficial...
i'm all for a good debate on stuff... personally I'd rather discuss the carcinogenic properties of aspartame.

Australians have been drinking fluoridated water for more than 50 years, and we have one of the best rates of dental health in the world (among the top 10). If it was killing us, I think we would have noticed by now.
Throughout the European mainland, fluoridated water is less common - but only because fluoridated salt is the preferred method of distribution. In fact, fluoridated salt is used in 30 different countries around the world, including Switzerland (which began the practice in 1955), Columbia, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Mexico, France, Spain and Germany. Currently, an estimated 200 million people consume fluoridated salt every year, to their lasting benefit.
Fluoride also occurs naturally in untreated water; for example, Hartlepool's water contains a percentage of fluoride that is equal to the artificially introduced amount, so there is no need for it to be added. Needless to say, the good people of Hartlepool have been drinking this naturally fluoridated water for centuries without any ill effects.

Fluoride in water is the least of the worries I have its sitting behind a diesel truck or car that has not been properly maintained. A definite carcinogenic.
I can choose my water by I cannot choose the truck/car in front.

ok guys get your point, im certainly no expert on the subject and until hearing about the addition to queensland water had very little interest in it .
having trawled through loads of anti-fluoride sites it kind of put the frightners on us especially the stuff about 4% increase in bone cancer (boys aged5-19)reported in the states in fluoridated areas.....makes you think when you have a young son.
and there is so much anti-fluoride stuff out there its hard not to get sucked in
the only bit of research i did myself was on behalf of homewardbound
nhs department of health obesity levels upto 8 feb2007
national average for england 21.4%
top 4
county durham and tees valley 27.4%
north/east yorkshire+lincolnshire 26.1%
trent 26.1%
birmingham and black country 24.9%
all fluoridated areas bar the trent which is in the middle of two
maybe fluoride is just like weed and gives you the munchies

To much of anything is bad for you, in moderation, or minisule amounts and that same thing is good for you.
IMO it's as daft as the argument about recycled water and desalination plants.
