Flirting with Australia.
Me and my oh are considering a new life in oz. I am 26 and have been a brickie for 4 yrs i have passed all city and guilds up to advanced level and was wondering how bricklaying in the uk differs to bricklaying in australia? as most of the threads i have read on here are about brickies that have been doing it a lot longer than myself, will this be a problem for me? (i mean im not the best but im far from being the the worst on site).
Kerry has been a florist for 10yrs and currently studying teacher training to teach floristry. Is there much or any call for florist's or floristry tutors in Australia? we love the outdoor life which includes motorbikes, fishing, bbq's and socialising. If anyone could give us any feedback we would really appreciate it (good and bad).

We moved to Oz in Jan 2007, best thing we ever did. But do your homework, check out the job sites, seek.com.au, jobsearch.gov.au is the biggest government site, mycareer.com.au and realestate.com.au is great, there is plenty of work for all trades, building is booming. Floristry is probably pretty good, we have Interflora out here, again the internet would be good for checking that out.
Next thing would be to come out here and travel around. Its a great place but you have to experience it for yourselves.
Good luck

Where abouts in Australia are you thinking about?
I'm in Perth, and can say you just basically need to know one end of a brick from another to get a job. Quantity not quality is what counts. Wages are about $1 a brick
There are plenty of Florists in Perth (CBD + all suburbs) so would think Kerry would be able to get a job fairly easily. Dont know what florist salaries are like in Perth but the national average is $700 per week according to HERE.
Feedback-wise, all I can say is dont expect utopia, or britain with sun. Australia is a large country and has its fair share of problems, as does every industrialised country. As one poster on here has as their signature line "same shit, different bucket"
For some people its heaven, for some people its hell. Come and see and make you own mind up.
PS. welcome to the site.
