It may work out cheaper flying out to somewhere like Malaysia or Singapore, Bali or Hawaii first, then booking a flight from there to the UK. It's just an idea....Alternative is to go to the airport and try and get one of the late tickets. It may mean sitting separately from your partner, but it will save a packet.
Good luck.

Don't know what the theory is behind this but it would seem they would sooner fly with empty seats than give last minute reductions.

Sorry this may work in the UK but it won't out here. They don't do standby flight here. If you just turn up at the airport and try for a flight all you'll get is one FULL FARE.

We can agree on this Pal , my wife was quoted more to fly one way $2040 than a return $1800 on the same flight I am going on.
If you fly during day light hours in the week to any city in Australia from Perth its upto 3 times the cost of night or weekend flights .
The market here is small and gets ripped off.

Has anyone tried getting “back to back flights from the UK to Oz i.e:-
UK – Oz --------|
Oz – UK ----| |
| |
UK – Oz ----| |
Oz – UK------- --|
You buy 2 x return tickets. The first one from UK to Oz, returning sometime in the future, and then you buy a Oz to UK return, in between the first return. You used to be able to do this in the UK to get much cheaper flights, but not sure if it would work fro Oz.
