Gulf Air is to cancel six longhaul routes from 1 July as it focuses on restructuring its Gulf and Middle East network.
The carrier, owned by the governments of of Bahrain and Oman, is seeking to stem heavy operating losses.
Chief executive André Dosé said Gulf Air would terminate routes to Jakarta, Singapore, Sydney, Hong Kong, Johannesburg and Dublin in the first of several tough measures already endorsed by its board.

I know - just as we got enough frequent flyer points with them for return business class flights - typical!
My OH said he read somewhere that they're working on the fleet and it could be re-introduced in the future...not that that's much use to you now though!

Basically GAMCO who maintain the Gulf Air Fleet have a missed a lot of corrosion on the Gulf 767 fleet which has effectively grounded them, so they are short of aircraft. Fleet is currently being rationalised, but may take a while. Add that to the fact that they weren't making any money on their long haul routes and they weren't left with much of a choice.
