Hi
Price sounds ok for that time of the year as just after Xmas no one really wants to travel and is classed as low season. Have a look around as many airlines may offer specials.

Before you plump for Dubai, I reckon it's a soulless characterless place. Slough on Sea is right. Without the good bits.

Oh don
Just when I had decided Well I havent paid yet have I

At the moment I live in a 5* deluxe resort hotel on the beach that Mr Debsy runs

It is the luggage allowance that is so attractive for me with Emirates - maybe I will ask them if I can have a stopover in singapore if possible - you been to Bintan?

Before booking also suggest you contact this consolidator in London. They specialise in best fares to the Far East and Australasia with the Asian airlines inc. Malaysian, Singapore, Cathay, Emirates, Thai, Korean etc:

http://www.leestravel.co.uk

There is a chart with the fares but if you want a 'side' trip it's best to send them an e-mail with your requirements. Malaysian is a nice airline; service is on a par with Singapore airlines.

I used to live in Singapore and this travel agency is popular with expats bringing out friends and relatives from the UK and they are 'kosher' - not a fly-by-night operation.

Debsy: I would *not* recommend Bintan. It's just a weekend getaway for Singaporeans and prices are hiked - they take Singapore and US $ instead of Indonesian rupiah! The beaches aren't even that nice and lots of people get bitten by sandflies.

Malaysian destinations: Langkawi = good. Penang = not good (sleazy and not so clean).

Reasonable. Singapore Airlines isn't bad & does some pretty cheap stopovers in singapore, too.
