Don't get it wrong with Emirates... they wanted an extra £670 as we were over our allowance when we got the airport!

Is it much more expensive to fly via USA or is it worthwhile to get the extra baggage allowance?

Ok, just got back from booking our flights and indeed, we (in our case) are allowed 2 x 32kgs pieces of luggage each, even got her to print it out. This is with quantas.

How did you get 32kgs with Qantas?

We're flying with Qantas in 2 weeks (Glasgow to Melbourne) for approx £1750 (2+2 - first part of flight with BA), but only getting 20kgs each. When I asked them for more allowance, they said I would need to buy specific emigration tickets (an extra £700 quid roughly).
I thought it better to keep with the cheaper flights and maybe spend the extra cash on new clothes when we get there!

we're getting a total of 64kgs each, 2 x 32kg bags per person. I was surprised myself but I have it in writing so i'm hoping when we turn up at the checkin theres no problems.

Yes and yes so she had to downsize before going to the airport.
AND she has had the worse luck with the movers too. They were supposed to leave on Nov 29th and then arrive early next week. She found out on the 29th December that it was leaving the UK that day! :scared:
My poor friend :(
The leaving party was fantastic tho' (not that I remember all of it!)

If you have it in writing they will have to honour it but MAKE SURE you take the proof with you. If they refuse you can tell them that they are in Breech of the 'Sale and Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982'. And ask to speak to a manager and kick up MERRY HELL... Good luck :)

correct me if i am wrong but i am sure that if you have already validated your visa then you are not entitled the 40 kg luggage allowance with Emirates ....despite being PR and having a one way ticket

Re: Flight luggage

Well, its confirmed, although Quantas will let us have 2x32kgs each for the LA to Melbourne flight, the Calgary to LA flight with Air Canaduh will not ! Just the regular 2x23kg. Fancy that.
