hi
We are heading for Canberra hopefully late November. We are flying to Sydney and then need to book seperate flight to Canberra. Do we book the flights beforehand and risk missing it due to delays or do we wait till we land in Sydney and hope they can get us on a flight?
any advice appreciated

When you book your flights, you can book to Canberra. The flights you are offered will then be tailored to this, and if you do miss your onward flight due to delays etc, then the airline will have to reschedule the flights for you. This happened to us when we went on holiday to the States, - as a result of problems with baggage in Toronto, we missed the onward connection. The airline simply put us on the next available flight. When we go to Sydney on Friday, we are flying via Seoul with an onward connection to SYD. If anything happens that we miss it, the airline will sort it (says she hopefully!)
Hope this helps. x

HI
We flew to Canberra in 2005. We booked our flights to Canberra as one ticket rather than 2 separate. Glad we did as we missed our connection due to clearing immigration. It was no hassle though. The airline just put us on the next flight which was about an hour later.
I did look at doing the flights separately but not worth the risk of missing your flight and the hassle to get it changed.

Dont just turn up and try to get a domestic flight. You could be disappointed or pay through the nose.

Right idea, however Virgin Atlantic do not fly to BNE. They do fly to SYD and you maybe able to get a Virgin Blue codeshare flight to Canberra, but I'm not sure if that is one of the routes that is in the codeshare agreement. You would have to speak to Virgin Atlantic in the UK or have a look on their website.
