Re: flight with the children

Fly with someone with a decent entertainment system, and bring a few colouring books / reading books and the time will fly by.

We've flown with Cathay Pacific with the 2 boys, and they were ace. Hoping Singapore Airlines will be equally good.

Good luck.

Suggest you look at Emirates, very child friendly. We travelled with a 4 and a 10 year old and they loved it, so did we.

Re: flight with the children

hi there I flew over to the USA first to stay with my parents and then went from LAX to Melbourne via Auckland with NZ Air. I was traveling with my 4 kids (16,10,7 and 3) on my own as hubby was on a different flight direct from Belgium (ummm who got the best deal on that one?).
My eldest is 16 so could help with the lugging around at airports but tended to spend the flight plugged into his MP3 player. The other kids spent the flight plugged into the movies and games and sleeping. I found NZ air excellent with fantastic entertainment and food and VERY kid friendly, it also helps that the flight from LAX to Melbourne is only around 12 hours which is much more manageable. I would definitely consider going that route again although LAX airport itself isn't all that easy to deal with.
Good luck but if you are prepared it is surprising how easy it is to travel with kids (lots of little treats and snacks go a long way to making a happy journey).
One thing that we found really useful for the youngest is the Video Now machine which we bought along with lots of Dora, Blues Clues, Wiggles etc disks, it is still really useful on long car trips.

I found that presents worked well, just have something wrapped up, it only needs to be something small, so when they are getting bored you can pull it out of your bag and it will keep them amused for a while.

Kids just love a present :)

We got ours from ToysRUs in the USA but had been looking at them in the UK ToysRUs for a while. We got the kiddie version and it is really robust. The older kids have gameboys with cartoon cartridges which also keep them happy on longer trips.
