We were at Wilson's Prom for the 2008 New Year and it was the first time we had ever experienced March Flies. The nasty things are very persistant and the females will actually try and get blood from you to feed their young. Apparently, they are attracted to black and blue clothing. I also understand why they are called March flies - you can't stand still otherwise they'll get you.
for sure!!Persistant, we started the day on bay side Sorrento, god fed up crossed over the peninsula to the surf side,
, shouldnt have bothered, they must have loved my juicy fresh blood
, because they would not leave me alone, in the end i just got up and ran off leaving my OH to tidy up, i needed the sanctuary of the car 
What was funny i didnt seem to see anybody else having the same extent of probs as we did,
,,i was definitely fresh meat
