Question Flies ?

This may sound an odd question but Summers here (for now) in the UK and we live in a semi rural area so we get a fair few flies & mozzies in the house.

Just wondering what situation in Aussie is ?

An issue in Summer ?
Any areas worse ?
Do most houses have insect screens on doors or windows ?

You'll get a lot more than just flies.

Cockroaches appear form nowhere inside the house. They often fly in and seem to come up from the drains.

You may get finehaired caterpillars which you shouldn't touch.

You will get asian house lizards running around your wallls

You may get lots of ants living in various places around and in your house.

You will get all varieties of strange large hardbacked beetles including cicadas and some rhincoeros beetles

Oh and the occasional spider and snake. A few friends of ours have had snakes on the loose in thier houses - all in urban environments

Never had a problem with flies in Brisbane, or most of the places I've been in Queensland. However, Melbourne and the coast of Victoria was an absolute nightmare in the summer. Flies everywhere. There isn't a single photo I took that doesn't have a fly invading somewhere!

Western Coastal Vicoria you hardly see a single fly in Winter, but in Summer their everywhere because its dairy country, plenty of cow droppings for them to breed in .

Pretty bad here in southern NSW in the summer too. Lots of dairy agriculture round these parts. We found we got used to it pretty quickly.

Hmmm, South Victoria & South NSW sounds most affected with the cow pats ! Unless its terrible wouldn't put me off. We'd just have to train our two young boys not to pick up every spider they find etc. They have an *interest* in insects like most at that age.

What measures do people take to avoid all these crawlies in the home, esp. cockroaches. I do remember them in Sydney now ?

Thanks

Swear at them then yell at The Bloke till he sprays them. Then yell at him again later for leaving the bodies on the floor
