Default First steps..any advice on the following

Hello All

We plan to use the sale of our house in the UK to fund our move to Melbourne. Could you give any guidance on the following.

1) Do you know what is required (apart from money) to rent a house in the Melbourne area ?

2) I plan to open a bank account with ANZ in London, then transfer money as required. Any thoughts on this ??

3) We plan to bring our two 7 year old cats. Do you have any experience of this ?? Is it accepted to rent somewhere and have pets ??

Probably got loads more to ask, but thanks in advance to any replies to the above.

HI

When i moved to melbourne - i needed a reference from work to confirm my salary etc.... if you dont have a job but have money in the bank - proof of that should do...... i know people who did it that way...

can help with the cats.. sorry

i opened an account with westpac over the internet in the UK and then transferred my cash over - had to go through some paperwork at oz end and it was fine..

if ANZ let you do it from london thats great.... theres the Commonwealth bank also - theres one in london at least....

try WWW.DOMAIN.COM.AU for accomodation

prices vary on location - city and beach areas tend to me more expensive...

See recent thread on same question:http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...hreadid=208636

Quick bit: They will be in quarantine for 30 days - gives you time to find a rental that does allow cats. Don't be totally put off by ads that say no pets, often this turns out to be NO DOGS
