I do agree, the joints in our house stood out like sore thumb and a ceiling I got 'professionally' jointed was shocking. Houses in general don't seem built to last and are temporary. Of course with us now living in a 400 year half timber house you realise how a house should be built :-)
Im amazed you call your tradesman plasterers, i call them semi skilled labourers, so does everyone else in the UK.
A plasterer applies plaster.
What you have is a drywall with taped joints and is far inferior to a "properly" plastered wall.
Moving to AUS myself in 2 yrs, seems im gonna make a killing over there.
