Default FHOG - Eligibility

Hi,

I've searched for this on numerous threads and other websites. I'm wondering if the FHOG is per person (eg. husband can claim and wife can claim = $14K) or is it one claim of $7K for the one house purchase.

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere. Sounds like I'm being greedy but just want to make sure I'm working on the correct sums.

Also, I've been reading about the Stamp Duty exemptions in Victoria and it all appears clear as mud to me . We have two young children and will be going on a PR so I think we'll be eligible for the extra family bit, we're expecting to get a house for around $300-350K so not sure what figure of support we'll actually get.

Any advice will be great.

Thanks,

Colin

Its one claim per house. Its a grant for the fact its your first house, not an individual grant. Biggish thread on it here: http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=255767

I wonder if the purchase is in one name only whether the other partner may be able to claim it on buying another property later on in their name only.

I've got a feeling they've got that covered in the T&Cs in that you and / or your spouse / partner must not have owned a house in Australia before.

Like I say, worth a try eh!! Still, $7K (possibly $10K) is still a bonus.

Cadbury - thanks for the thread - don't know why that didn't come high up on my search results as I did actually search for FHOG
