Default Fees for buying a house

People who have bought houses in Aus, particularly Queensland. I am interested to know the costs involved in buying a house. I now they have stamp duty, but have no idea how much it is or if it varies with the price of the house.
Other costs as well?

Many thanks

Sorry not Queensland but I bought in NSW - reckon on costs about 4.5% on top of purchase price. That takes into consideration there is stamp duty on house price and any mortgage separately and there are fees to bank/solictor/bank/government forms and fees. Banks are so good at charging I named them twice!

Yes fees vary on price of house and mortgage % wise. I will try and find one of the links I used. But Aussie Mortgages is a start. Also when setting up a mortgage if required, bargain them down on the set up fees. Basically individual banks can charge fees for an application! Current cost here about $600.

Hope a Queenslander helps you out specifically, or others

Cheers

In QLD stamp duty is the biggest expense (and QLD has lowest stamp duty of all states). 4.5% is way more than I payed in total, seem to remember it was about 2% total and stamp duty was 1% of that. It depends on how many council searches and inspections you have done as well. Me being cautious hit it with everything just to be on the safe side.

Heres a link to a Stamp Duty Calculator. Enjoy
