Fat lizard.
Was about to mow the lawn when I encountered this thing in my way. Should I be worried?

It is a blue tongue lizard ... they are not venomous. They tend to just hiss at danger and open their mouths to show off there blue tongue but they will bite if provoked and as they have yucky bacteria in their mouths a wound from them could get infected.
We have a whole family in our garden apart from eating all our strawberries I think they are cool

Some kids out here have them as pets in the garden.
According to my neighbour, we have a family of them under our shed but we've never seen them yet !

Wow, he's beautiful. If they feel threatened, they make a low hissing noise almost, by forcing air through some bit of their head... And they'll open their mouths too. Fine to pick up but they can bite you if you don't hold them right. They're very strong and wriggly.

Thanks for the replies. It eventually disappeared to another part of the garden, but it stayed long enough to prevent lawn mowing...honest.

Oh Rachel, they're not poisonous, just lovely creatures! They're very shy, not at all aggressive and they're fun for kids to watch. They also eat gross things from your garden. I'd be pleased to have one of those.
