The famous huntsman!
Well - this pic was taken in my first 3 days here.
It was on the window one morning when we woke up so it was a bit of a fright at 7:30am!!!
They dont run after you as some people make out so dont worry about them.
Seen a few more at Jeztechs house aswell - we were all frantic and spraying it ...
... Nothing a can of Morteine dont cure

Huntsmans are ok because they eat up all the dangerous spiders.
Here's one next to a woman's hand (for scale)

And here's a little fella I picked up yesterday...

I was thinking the same but didn't want to say anything. There is no need to kill huntsmen "save the huntsman" banner flying here... you murderers you
I always leave huntsman spiders in the house and never put them outside.. they are lovely!
But if you do not like spiders, just put a glass over him and slide a card under the glass.
They are not an aggresive spider (and are not dangerous), they will run away from you. Most spiders really have to be provoked to bite (bar the sydney funnel web) and besides the obvious putting your body/limb on top of one.
cheers

A point that I would make however......is that if you are at all unsure of what spider you are dealing with....just kill it/vac it to be on the safe side.
Huntsman are pretty easy to identify so it should'nt really be a problem.

I read on a website the other day that they hide behind the sun visor in cars and then run across the dashboard!

I agree with catch and release for huntsman spiders 100%.

But what if they crawl put of the hoover pipe thingummy? They might not get squashed by all that fluff in the bag.
Think I might just have to re-educate myself re huntmen spiders - "It's not a spider, it's a mouse" as I'm not worried about mice!
Any other tips on dealing with arachnaphobia would be much appreciated, so long as you don't suggest "implosion" - an aggressive therapy where you're exposed to huge amounts of what you're afraid of inorder to get over the phobia. I once had a little diddy spider near the sink, which I named George and felt much better about him being there after that. But, it was still a little diddy spider. I blame it on my brother - used to put spiders in my hair when I was little.... ahhh....

Don't worry the picture is very magnified. The one in my house yesterday was about the size of my palm (with legs extended).

Put the poor things in a jar and set them out in the garden. That is what we do. Had one the size of my hand in the bedroom once, they don't run fast and are easy to catch and they don't do you no harm (same applies to Daddy Longlegs). A red back/white tip on the other hand is a different story. I will kill them without hesitation.
