Originally posted by artep I think I'm an extrovert......most of the time.....but my other half would prob disagree and say I'm just a gobby cow!! :D  Note to self: stick finger in blokes eye next time he accuses me of being the slightest bit gobby...:D :D SNAP Jill :D |
now which do people think fit their chosen country best...?
impossible to generalise.... but I think australians, and americans are more extroverted in general, and the english & NZers are more reserved and introverted perhaps (or more accepting of it perhaps) of course plenty of exceptions to the rule.... to make further generalisations I think northerners are more extroverted than southerners in the UK! should/does this have an impact on where you choose to live in the world and how much you like it? |

Originally posted by podgypossum Chicken!! :p But I have been trying to figure out what some people mean by extroverted and I reckon bundy did pretty well. You may not want to control folk, but if you're good at the first two bits you'll probably be doing the third : ) Love the country question too. If people are people then it brings in an interesting idea of how far you are allowed to develop your individual personality traits in different countries. A radio story a few weeks back said that to try and get Singaporeans to stop looking to the government for guidance in absolutely everything, they revoked a law that said you couldn't dance on top of bars. The upshot was that lots of people got it into their head that the only way to be individual (or did they mean extrovert) was to dance on top of the bars with everyone else! The "extrovert" Thais I've met have tended to be gay which implies a whole lot of other life choices that may give them the freedom to express the "outgoing" side of themselves. (Don't ask how I met so many gay Thais) Hey this is getting deep, but maybe the societies where introverts are given a freer rein are the ones where cars are built better because people don't just say "hey wouldn't it be just as good to use plastic for the door handles?" "hmm lighter too." And Then! I read a great critique of airline safety culture across the world. The extrovert Aussies just bounce stupid decisions straight back at the managers that give them. A QANTAS technician will feel comfortable telling his immediate superior that leaving component X for just one more flight isn't an option. They've never "lost a hull" as they describe it. I've read of many Singapore Airlines crews doing things like dragging their tails off the runway because number 2 pilot didn't want to contradict number 1 pilot. FWIW British staff would respond to the stupid suggestion, but by going over his bosses head. Different cultures do suit different personalities types I guess. :lecture: |

I actaully hate being the centre of attention, but don't mind getting stuck in if you know what i mean. Unfortunately my raw nerve and energy get me noticed more than I realise. when push comes to shove i know what i can do so nothing really touches me and i couldn't care - hard to explain?? badge |
I cant agree that certain countries or certain areas of certain countries produce one or the other. I think its more a case of certain countries produce what appears to be introverts, but they are more likely keeping their mouths shut to stop their heads coming off (or similar)
You can also mistake snobbery, upbringing and class systems for these attributes, but it doesnt mean they are introvert or extrovert just more brash and course. We are stepping into the realms of stereotypes now, and we all know they are false most of the time. |
