so if we had our permanent visa and booked with emirates one way would we get extra baggage allowance...just i could really do with taking some of my tools over instead of having to wait for them in a container.

we had some tools sent by airfreight at the time it was £3.50kg only took a few days

We're flying with Singapore Airlines one-way with a stopover in Singapore and they've given us the extra luggage allowance - 40kg each. It really seems to depend on the airline.

be careful we flew with sigapore and had a stop over and when we came to check in again from sigapore to bris they tried to tell us they knew nothing about being allowed 40kgs and that even if we had we were still over weight there scales were weighing heavy i argued with them and eventually they let me on the only reason i found out the scales were weighing heavy was that i still had my baggage recipt from heathrow with the weights printed on them each case weighed about 3ks more and when you have 10 cases its alot and they treid to charge me about$400 for it

That is true but they work out a lot more expensive, I was looking to fly with United and discussed it before this is what i ment by they only fly to Sydney for £800 ish but I would have to go via NZ and to be honest i just want to get there!

If it was going to cost that much more I would be better off paying for Excess Baggage, it may work out best that way for some people but in my case it would work :( :)

In this day when return tickets are nearly the same price as single tickets you would think the airlines would be more lenient and allow the extra baggage allowance?

Why not fly with Air New Zealand? Or Qantas/BA? Or Virgin/Air Pacific?

We flew with Qantas, had 4 stops and it was £600 odd each. And we never actually boarded a Qantas plane!!!
