We wish to buy a car in uk, namely a lotus elise or a tvr cerberra and "ship" to Australia.

However have come across the 12 month ruling, !! <arghhhh>

Any ideas on ways round this, car will be owned for approximately 1 month before being shipped, and will be yr 2000 ish in manufacture.


Any suggestions greatly appreciated

We brought our car down, but had owned it for more than 12 months, so all the info I have is about that.

Had a gander on that site thanks, but about as much luck as a chocolate teapot, thing is ive read on the Govt site there is an 12 month pre ownership doodah !! but i cant fathom why, and whats more, I wonder how id go on importing a new car say from USA to OZ if i was in OZ.... dya fly to usa , buy car fly back and then import it 12 months later ?? lol

You could try buying it now and getting a friend to ship it after 12 months, my premise being is the time from when you are granted your visa or when you intend to depart?
