Expert on Brits moving to Oz needed for interview
Hi,
I'm a student journalist here in the UK and I'm working on a radio piece for my coursework about the large numbers of Brits that emigrate to Australia.
My piece will be looking at the motivations behind moving to the other side of the world, the benefits, but also the difficulties Brits face in their new life Down Under. It will attempt to answer the question: 'Is the Australian dream the same as the reality'.
Anyways, I need to interview some kind of expert on the subject and talk to them about how many Brits move to Australia each year, why they decide to move, what they find difficult about the move, is Australian culture what Brits expect it to be etc, etc.
It can be anyone from an academic to someone who runs a support group for ex-pat Brits!! Just someone who can speak with authority on the subject...
I'm going to be in Cairns from 14 - 18 Nov and Sydney 27 Nov - 3 Dec to do interviews, so if anyone can recommend a suitable interviewee I'd be most appreciative!
Thanks!
Tess

Hi Tess, this might be better in our media requests forum but I'll leave a re-direct here for a week as well.
Cheers.

Tess is this for uni? If so can you provide a little more info, eg what uni it's for and where the programme will be aired. You might receive responses if people have more info.

Re: Expert on Brits moving to Oz needed for interview
Hi,
As requested by Sue, a bit more information about my request.
I'm a masters student at Sheffield Hallam University in the UK and I'm currently studying radio production modules as part of my course. For our coursework we need to put together a 3-min radio package on a topic/issue.
As I was already spending three weeks in Oz, visiting ex-pat Brits, I decided it might be interesting to do my piece on the experience of living in Australia, as it seems to be a thing a lot of Brits desire or have experience of. I know my friends haven't found it all easy so I wanted to do a piece exploring the challenges Brits face when moving over to Oz, a country that has such a strong cultural significance in Britain.
So, I need an 'expert' who can contextualise Brits' experience in Oz, as I already have my friends as a 'case study' of what's it's like to move so far away.
The package will be for coursework only, so won't be aired as such, but will obviously be listened to my tutors.
Any suggestions (or pointers) welcomed!
Thanks,
Tess
PS Apologies for putting post in wrong section!

Tess, Hopefully you will find the experts you are looking for... but you might not.
In which case, I would suggest that you simply spend a few (quite a few) hours going through old posts on this forum. You will be able to work out who the experts are. Send them a PM and ask them questions. Then afterwards, make up a qualification for them, if required.

Tess,
I recommend you contact the mods and engage in purposeful sampling.
A good 1/2hr phone-call with 2 or 3 of them will be very productive.
Use the forum as your angle in validating their generalised contextualisation and opening the door to the specificity and subjectivity of your case-study.

Of course, it depends what your Aussie dream is?
If it's having a big house next to the beach, where you sit and have BBQ's every day, while your servants bring you beer then no, it's definitely not
