Hey all,
Just wondering what people think of Northbridge as a place to go out? Is it as rough as people make out or is it the same as any other city hotspot in the world??

I've been out in Northbridge quite a few times and I don't think it's rough. I've never had any trouble although my Mate's Girlfriend was punched in the face by an Aboriginal Woman outside The Brass Monkey. It's no different from city centre areas anywhere else in the Western World.

Isnt that what blokes always say when they can't pull
I had a fab night out there and it was buzzing. Did have a nice holiday vibe as it was so warm but certainly not dated with the music. Loads of live bands too ... but you can definately find somewhere to suit whatever your music taste maybe
Definately same as anywhere else ... you get the drunken di@kheads the world over. Was noway as threatening as Birmingham city centre and there were plenty of police about ... but I didnt see any trouble in northbridge and always did in Birmingham.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have tried Subi for a night out and was impressed. Having said that there was a huge brawl on the top balcony of that club next to the Witches Cauldron when we were heading home - i thought someone would land on the Rokeby tarmac!!
Might give Northbridge a go at the weekend. Any other suburbs worth a look on weekend nights?

It's not a bad night out up until around 12 - 1am, then a sinister undercurrent breezes in ... I don't need to spell out who.
I'm more of a Freo or Leederville man myself, but the best pub in Perth without a doubt is the Queens on Beaufort Street & Sienna's restaurant next door is top quality value for money scran.
Subi has class but also a load of seriously up themselves wannabees.
If you want a good Sunday session outside of the OBH in Cott, then head for the Mullaloo Beach Hotel from 3pm and buy me a Beez Neez

I havn't been as of yet, but, my hubby goes all the time. He said it's nowhere in the same league as a night out round a UK city, but it is one of the better nights out you will get in Perth. The music is abit dated, but so are many things here. Some decribe it like a night out in Tenerife, maybe that is why it has a label of "rough".

Even the 5hit smells better in the UK than here I bet?Personally I love Northbridge. I haven't seen any trouble there yet and I have been out about 20 times so far on a Friday night. The place is crawling with coppers to make us all feel safer and there are Transit Guards on the train home too. There are dozens of bars to cater for all tastes and even more restaurants.
I find the atmosphere more relaxed than in the UK but then I guess that is Aussies generally or maybe the fact I have already had a few in the CBD before I get there.
What trouble there is seems to be in small hours of the morning when some people have had more than they can cope with and spill out of the nightclubs or get frustrated in a queue for a taxi. There is often a gang influence on that stuff too.
I will be out there again on Friday.

Why aren't I surprised that you think the UK is better

I left my dinner group in Northbridge and walked back to my hotel alone a few years back and was told I was lucky! But I saw nothing out of the ordinary.

I think it's great - it's got a bit of an edge to it and this gives it a nice contrast with the sqeaky clean CBD.

I know some people struggle to settle here and others realise they have made a mistake. I have great sympathy for anyone in that position and it was something we feared before we came out. I wouldn't want to rub salt in any of those wounds.
I guess someone had to ask so why not me: The question on the lips of many ex-pats I talk to is whether you just love to whinge and are really just going through a period of transition or whether you really love the UK that much more than Australia; and if so why are you still here? I know there are kids to think of / the cost etc but If I was as unhappy as you sound I would walk back to England on my hands.

I didn't say you didn't like it if you re-read my post. I remarked that you said again that the UK was better than Australia. No wonder you prefer the UK - you haven't given Aus a fair go. How long have you been here and you haven't been out in Northbridge yet??? Yet you complain there is nothing to do in Perth.

Just stay away from drunks and you'll be fine.
Its safeish and plenty of people about. I feel safer here than most UK towns.
