Default Expats in Brisbane

Gday all

Have been living in Brisbane now for five months, still hasnt sunk in yet that i am hear for good. It only took 6 years !!!!!!!

Am working hard as a nurse to save money for a deposit. My boyfriend and i are still finding our feet. We are both pleased that we made the move even though it was extremely hard saying goodbye to family and friends.

I know we have made the right move 100%, its just feels weird not having any friends over here, as we have to start from fresh, we talk alot and email friends back home but its not the same as in person.

We have both been working now for four months, but haven't really made any friends as such yet, just people you talk to in passing really.

I know it takes a while to make good friends and i should'nt worry just yet, its just weird as i am so used to having a close circuit of friends around me.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas, suggestions of other ways to meet people. anyone in the same situation as me or was and now has lots of friends !!!!!!!!

Thanks

hi all.. ive been here since last jan and its taken along time to settle in and make freinds. my freind who i came out with me actually went home cause we hadnt met alot of ppl. its only coming together now so i think its important to realise that these things dont happen over night and to give it time. i work in the royal but planning to move to the sunshine coast now i have got my residency. the city does nothing for me and would much rather b near the coast. regularly out and about in brissy tho if anyone fancys geting together for a coffee/drink. auds x

hey again

I too am planning to move to the gold coast,we have been looking at pacific pines area, its really nice. will be a few months yet as want to save up a good deposit for a house so makes sense to stay with my brother in brisbane as much much cheaper.

any ideas what area you will move to, what about work ?

Hi,
Interested to know if you have had any success in meeting and making new friends. I have only just arrived in Brisbane ( 5 days ago to be precise!!) My partner has already been here since September working in the city as an engineer. Still waiting for the container to arrive but have an apartment in Hawthorne..
First impressions of Brisbane are really good but with no job lined up yet I am feeling lonely when my partner is at work!!! Early days I know so just wondered how you have settled?

Hi
We arrived in hawthorne 6 days ago, hubby also an engineer.....
Husband still off so yet to see what life is whilst he works. I have two children 5&3 so probably much older than you, but can still meet for coffee. I have taken the attitude to do everything and meet everyone- have four coffee/lunches next week planned- and see where they go.

Goodluck maybe see you around!!

This is Stuart, Liz's partner.

We have to share a laptop until the container arrives. Liz is keen to meet with you and will be in touch this evening.

Cheers

Hi All,
We arrived two years ago, I am manager in mental health living in Bribie while we look for something much closer to City. Making friends is hard but it happens, I meet two girls at Caboolture Hospital when i was based there and through them we have had some nights in and out and weekends away. Never thought we would do it initially as it was so hard leaving all my own friends in Scotland, but found people very friendly and welcoming. Happy to meet up if anyone fancies a chat or any gossip lol!

Hope you all enjoy - -we love it and cannot imagine life anywhere else anymore!

AJ

First year is the worst but once you get that over you find lots more things to do and start to find all those things you missed and didn't realise existed. Just hang on in there and you'll find the right things with a little help from your new friends

Will be in Wynnum soon, and the Pig & Whistle sounds interesting, would like to hear from any other OAP's in the area, who would like to gloat about the mess the UK is in ! This is my first message so I've probably done it all wrong, anyway all the best, Bill.

Nope, done pretty well for a first poster.

Quite welcome at the Pig 'n' Whistle. Just pop your name on there to shame, ummm, jog, the regular attendees to decide whether they will go on Saturday. I'll be there.
